Part of The Scouts

13th Cambridge Scout Group

Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers, meeting weekly in Cambridge — adventure, friendship and the outdoors for young people aged 6 to 18.

Our mission

13th Cambridge Scout Group gives young people in Cambridge the chance to try new things, take the lead, and grow in confidence and independence. Through weekly meetings, camps and expeditions, our Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers learn practical skills, teamwork and outdoor adventure, guided by a team of volunteer leaders and supported by parents and the wider community. We are proudly part of the worldwide Scouting movement and welcome young people from all backgrounds.

Our history

13th Cambridge Scout Group traces its roots back to 1 June 1910, when the troop was founded with Maurice Eastwell as its first Scoutmaster. Around 1916 the troop was renamed "Nott's Own" in memory of brothers L. C. and H. P. Nott, both of whom served as Assistant Scoutmasters before being killed in the First World War; a legacy in their name later helped fund the group's headquarters on Marmora Road, still in use today. We were registered as a charity with the Charity Commission for England and Wales on 10 July 2020 (charity number 1190358), formalising over a century of community-run Scouting. Today the group is run entirely by volunteers, overseen by a board of trustees responsible for the group's governance, safeguarding and finances. A fuller account of our history is held by the Cambridge District Scout Archive.

What we do

We run weekly meetings for each of our sections — Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers — at our own headquarters, offering a structured programme of games, badge work, crafts and outdoor skills. Alongside regular meetings, we run:

The group is entirely volunteer led, with 8 trustees and around 25 adult volunteers giving their time to run sections, maintain our premises, and support young people's development.
